10 months of locs! Where has time gone!
My locs have been up for approximately 10 months, and let me just tell you that time has really flown by! I still remember the very 1st day that I got locs--how nervous I was but excited at the same time! I remember walking out the shop thinking this is a new life for me! I felt like such a different person. The length was the most concerning for me because my hair always shrunk pretty badly as a loose natural and having locs didn't make it any better. However, with my natural hair, I could compensate for the shortness by making my hair as ginormous as I wanted with either a blow out or puff. Bigness wasn't even an option with my newly started, shriveled little locs, and each day I would Google to figure out how to get through this short, uncomfortable phase. Even though the search results commonly stated that this was a phase everyone with locs goes through, my short length was something I hated! In my eyes, my starter locs were very short and thin, and I could not wait to fast forward to where I am! I have hang time, slang time, and not to forget fullness!
Month 10 has found my locs full and healthy. And there has been a little breakage along the way, which I think has stemmed from my wash routine. Hence, I oil and moisturize my hair on schedule and get retwists every 6-8 weeks and protect my 70+ locs with a satin hair bonnet. I have yet to dye my hair or put damaging protective styles in it. However, when I've washed my hair myself, I haven't used a micro-fiber towel and I fully blow dry my locs each time so I wash them in order to o protect my hair's health.
Month 10 has found me in madly in love with my locs! My locs have given me one more reason to jump out the bed in anticipation everyday! I love waking up each morning and running to the mirror to see how much my locs have literally changed over night! Depending on their condition, sometimes a little mist of rosewater is needed and dab of olive oil. And depending on how they fall, I might grab a headband.
But, above all, I'm learning that love, patience, and appreciation are always necessary to keeping my hair healthy and happy!
